Just The FECTS
If you're talking with someone, and they are talking about you and you space out as they're saying a word with "FECT" in the middle, you may have trouble.
They could have been calling you deFECTive. That would be upsetting. They might be right, as you spaced out, but no one wants to hear that.
He or she might also have commented on your hipster aFECTations. Also upsetting, as no one wants to be called, in essence, a charlatan.
The only good option is the third: there's a slim chance you were being referred to as eFECTive. If you're a remotely dynamic individual, this one is probably it.
While unlikely, you could have been called FECTacular. In this situation, it's best to reconsider the company you keep, as fectacular is not a word.
